Introducing Employee Work Patterns in Cloud Workforce Management

Introducing contracted-hours management designed for the complexity of frontline workforces. HR and Payroll teams can now record, manage and track each employee’s contracted working arrangements with date-effective precision, visible revision history and shift-level Location, Department and Role context.

For Back Office (TimeTarget) customers, Employee Work Patterns provides a more capable, web-native path to transition existing default-hours data into Cloud WFM while maintaining continuity for approved workflows.

Let's dive in.

🔥 What's New

Employee Work Patterns is now available via Early Access in Employee Management > Profile > Work Pattern and delivers the following capabilities in Cloud WFM:

  • Work Pattern creation and management - Define recurring contracted working arrangements per employee, including shift start and end times, paid or unpaid breaks, location, department, role and net-hours calculations.
  • Date-effective scheduling - Set precise effective dates for current and future contracted arrangements, with a clear timeline of what applies and when.
  • Revision management - Update an existing Work Pattern or create a new version while preserving the history of previous arrangements.
  • Status tracking - View whether a Work Pattern is Current, Upcoming or Outdated, giving HR and Payroll visibility of changes over time.
  • Award Profile context - Work Patterns inherit the applicable Award Profile context through the employee’s Role.
  • Work App - Mobile support for Employee Work Patterns allows leave applications and timesheet creation in the Work App to use contracted hours, with a targeted release in version 1.29 shortly after the web launch.
  • Leave integration - Where a Work Pattern applies, leave calculations can use the applicable Work Pattern hours, including the relevant shift context and unpaid-break treatment.

⭐️ Why It Matters

Standard default-hours records fail to capture complex frontline schedules, such as split shifts, varying breaks, multiple locations, or changing contracted hours. This creates accuracy and compliance risks across leave, timesheets, costing, and Award Interpretation.

Employee Work Patterns provides HR and Payroll teams with a flexible, auditable solution to record exact shift arrangements, roles, and locations with date-effective precision and complete revision histories.

  • Compliance confidence— A date-effective, auditable record of contracted working arrangements reduces reliance on manual workarounds and makes it easier to understand what applied, when it applied and what changed.
  • More accurate workforce processes - Work Patterns provide a structured contracted-hours source for relevant leave, timesheet, costing and Award Interpretation workflows.
  • Support for complex arrangements - Multiple shifts, flexible breaks and shift-level Location, Department and Role details help represent more realistic working arrangements, including multi-hiring employment scenarios.
  • Stronger foundation for managing change - Effective dates allow organisations to prepare future contracted arrangements in advance and manage changes in a controlled way.
  • Accelerate BackOffice transition - For TimeTarget customers, Employee Work Patterns in Cloud WFM superceeds 'EmpHours', helping you migrate to our modern cloud platform with confidence and continuity with added capabilty. Experience a more flexible, date-effective, and auditable web-native model that supports multiple daily shifts, complex break combinations, and shift-level location context, whereas Back Office default hours are limited to a single daily shift with basic on/off management.
